Speaker of Turkish Parliament visits DEM Party

The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Numan Kurtulmuş, stated after his meeting with the co-chairs of the Equality and Democracy of Peoples Party (DEM Party) that a parliamentary committee will be formed and begin effective work in the coming days.

Numan Kurtulmuş visited the co-chairs of the Equality and Democracy of Peoples Party, Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan.

According to Mezopotamya Agency, the meeting between the two parties took place in the parliament and was closed to the media. After the meeting, both sides issued a joint statement.

Tülay Hatimoğulları, co-chair of the Equality and Democracy of Peoples Party, said: “The path we are taking today places historic responsibilities on the parliament regarding the building of peace and democracy. We discussed these issues clearly, and we thank the Speaker of Parliament for his visit.”

For his part, Speaker of the Parliament Numan Kurtulmuş noted that the meeting addressed the parliament’s responsibilities in strengthening national unity, mutual understanding, and advancing democratic standards in Turkey. He said: “After the statement from Imrali and the declaration of the ceasefire, the issue has reached a level where it can be discussed within the parliament, which is the center of national will and the core of Turkish democracy.”

He added: “We believe that all political parties must approach this historic opportunity with a spirit of responsibility in order to achieve quick results and launch a new political agenda in Turkey. I hope the parliamentary committee to be formed in the coming days will begin its work effectively. We will examine the structure and working mechanisms of the committee and make the necessary initial preparations accordingly.”
