The Kurdish street is awaiting practical steps from political parties and forces to achieve unity and build a shared vision that guarantees the protection of Kurdish people’s rights and determines their future in the upcoming stage, following the outcomes of the Kurdish Unity Conference held on April 26, 2026.

In this context, social figure Sheikhmous Ahmed said: “The Kurds have waged a long struggle to solve their issue and achieve unity on both the political and social levels. The need for unity and consolidating ranks has become more urgent in light of the developments taking place in the region and the world.”

He stressed: “This unity must include all parts of Kurdistan and not be limited to one part only. The Kurdish people must be prepared to keep pace with the rapid changes in the Middle East in a way that helps consolidate their existence, rights, and achievements, while working to solve their issue and strengthen their political presence during the coming phase.”

Ahmed emphasized the importance of holding a Kurdish national congress that includes political, social, religious, intellectual, and independent figures to formulate a unified strategy that fits the requirements of the new phase and defines future Kurdish policies and positions.

He added that achieving Kurdish unity would strengthen cohesion among Kurds across Kurdistan, enabling mutual support in confronting challenges and helping protect Kurdish national rights and achievements.

He noted that the Kurds will be part of the ongoing transformations in the region, giving them a role in the political balances that will determine the future of the Middle East during the next phase.

Sheikhmous Ahmed also pointed out that the Kurdish people have historically proven their ability to lead and overcome difficulties, stand against oppression, and liberate individuals from tyranny, citing the revolution of Kawa the Blacksmith against King Zahhak before 612 BC, which became a symbol of freedom for the Kurds.

He added that the Kurdish people possess political, intellectual, and social capabilities that qualify them to play an active role in the current phase through political, intellectual, and tribal figures supporting the idea of unity.

He noted that one of the major challenges facing the Kurds is the continued impact of political and geographical divisions. He stressed the need to overcome these concepts, strengthen Kurdish unity, build a force capable of protecting Kurdish achievements and society, and remove obstacles hindering unity efforts. He said: “Kurdistan is one and indivisible in its borders, policies, and positions.”

For his part, Kurdish writer Mishal Othman considered partisan and personal interests among the biggest obstacles to achieving Kurdish unity and common political positions, noting that the absence of political consensus still negatively affects the Kurdish reality.

Othman expressed disappointment over the lack of tangible practical results a year after the Kurdish Unity Conference in Qamishlo, saying that its outcomes have not yet been translated into real steps on the ground and remain merely ink on paper.

He explained that the conference represented an important step toward unity for many Kurds, but the absence of practical implementation kept its results theoretical. At the same time, he stressed that Kurdish unity has become an urgent necessity in order to hold a Kurdish national congress capable of achieving the goals of the Kurdish cause amid the developments in the region.

In conclusion, Othman stressed that achieving Kurdish unity would positively impact the Kurdish cause and could contribute to reaching solutions through dialogue with influential parties.
