As part of the events organized by the Rojava Literature Council in Qamishlo ahead of Kurdish Language Day on May 15, a children’s celebration was held today at Şlêr Library in Tirbespiyê, with the participation of dozens of children and their families. The event included various artistic and cultural activities.

The celebration began with a reading of the story “The Farmer and the Mouse,” presented by Fatima Mohammed, followed by questions for the children about the stories’ content.

Prizes were distributed to participating children, including copies of “Mizgîn” magazine, pens, and school notebooks.

The event concluded with traditional songs performed by the “Martyr Bawer” band from Tirbespiyê, in addition to traditional dabke dance circles.

The council also screened a film at Şlêr Library in Qamishlo depicting the suffering of the Kurdish people during the Iran-Iraq war years.

The film, inspired by real events and produced in 2000, highlights the poverty, hunger, and displacement experienced by Kurdish villages, especially border areas, amid war and deprivation.

The story follows two teachers, Saeed and Rebwar, who travel through villages carrying blackboards on their backs to teach children their mother tongue, reflecting determination to preserve language and education despite harsh conditions and suffering.

Meanwhile, the Union of Intellectuals of Rojavayê Kurdistanê (HRRK) organized a poetry evening and a book signing for the poetry collection “Your Breaths” by poet Hozan Kerkendî.

The event was held under the slogan “Our Language Is Our Identity” at the union’s headquarters in Qamishlo, attended by writers, poets, and intellectuals.

The evening began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by poetry readings by several poets, including Lîman Ali, Issa Khallo, Behzad Hussein, Hozan Kerkendî, and Dilyar Osi.

After the poetry evening, a signing ceremony was held for Kerkendî’s poetry collection “HENASÊN TE.”

The book consists of a single long poem addressing themes of love, exile, homeland, and language through symbolic literary style. It was published by HRRK Publications in 2025.

Hozan Kerkendî was born in 1971 in the village of Kerkendî near Dêrik. He studied there until secondary school and later attended the Kurdish Literature Institute in Serêkaniyê between 2015 and 2016.

He has published several poetry collections, including “Evîna Vejandî,” “Ne Payîz Daristanan Diweşînin,” “Vehêsînek Li Ber Çavên Dilberê,” “Çend Wêne Ji Şengewîna Gundê Min,” “Bêhnek Ji Sirûşa Peymana Te,” “Vedenga Hestan,” “Heyal,” “El Eşq el Ezlî We Melhemet El Elem,” and “HENASÊN TE.”
