A ministerial delegation from the Syrian Interim Government, headed by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, arrived in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Sunday to participate in the second session of the High Coordination Council between the two countries.

The Syrian delegation was received upon arrival by Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi. The two ministers met prior to the start of the sessions and discussed bilateral relations and issues of common interest.

The ministerial meeting of the Syrian-Jordanian High Coordination Council then commenced, with the participation of delegations from both countries. This session in Amman follows the first meeting held in Damascus last May, and is part of joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries in various sectors.

The meeting witnessed the signing of nine memoranda of understanding between the two countries, covering the sectors of industry and trade, health, social affairs, religious endowments, higher education, justice and the judiciary, media, tourism, and postal and electronic payment services.

The meetings also resulted in the launch of a new import mechanism based on the principle of reciprocity, to be implemented starting April 10, 2026, along with the formation of a joint investment committee and the development of the Nassib/Jaber border crossing to operate around the clock.

According to SANA, the meetings focused on strengthening cooperation in the energy and transportation sectors, including electricity interconnection and gas agreements, reactivating the railway line, and cooperation in the water sector through the development of the Yarmouk Basin.
