Recently, the Syrian arena has witnessed an escalation in incendiary rhetoric and attempts to fuel sectarian tensions, particularly between Arab and Kurdish communities. These provocations have elicited strong rejection from various tribes and civil society actors, who underscore the imperative of preserving civil peace and resisting any calls that threaten the cohesion of Syrian society.

commitment to civil peace

In this context, Sheikh Fayez Hussein al-Jadaan, sheikh of  al-Bousheikh tribe of al-Bakara clan, expressed his outright rejection of “all attempts at incitement and discord in North and East Syria.” He stressed that the region’s diverse populations coexist in harmony and solidarity. Sheikh al-Jadaan highlighted the continuous efforts by tribal elders to raise awareness among locals and safeguard civil peace, describing it as an essential prerequisite to preventing a recurrence of conflicts seen in other Syrian regions such as Sweida and the coastal areas.

He further clarified that the events in Syria’s interior, particularly in Sweida, and the misuse of the “tribal” identity, do not reflect the genuine tribal institutions. Instead, these represent deliberate attempts to distort their image and foment division among Syrians. Sheikh al-Jadaan urged tribal leaders to educate their communities against falling prey to these destabilizing provocations.

SDF: defenders of Syria’s security and stability

He also underscored that the Syrian Democratic Forces have been and remain the frontline entity that liberated Syria from the ISIS/ Daesh mercenaries. The SDF is not a faction representing a single ethnic or sectarian group; rather, it is an inclusive force comprising members from diverse Syrian regions. The SDF’s fight against terrorism was carried out in defense of all Syrians and has never been directed against any community within the country.

Sheikh al-Jadaan reaffirmed full support for the SDF, emphasizing that the hostile narratives circulated on social media are merely provocations designed to sow discord.

He reiterated his endorsement of the March 10 Agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government, advocating for continued dialogue and its full implementation on the ground without exclusion of any component, toward a participatory Syria where all citizens enjoy equality.

Call for an inclusive Syrian National Conference

Concluding his statement, Sheikh Fayez al-Jadaan denounced those exploiting the tribal name from abroad, clarifying that they do not represent the tribes nor speak on their behalf. He firmly rejected attempts to ignite discord among Syrians, affirming that “Syrian blood is sacred and must not be spilled by Syrians.” He called for the organization of a comprehensive Syrian national conference, free from external interference or tutelage, to serve as a platform that meets the aspirations of all Syrians.
