Severe shortage of medicines in besieged city of Kobani

A month has passed since factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government imposed a siege on the cities and villages of Kobani. Basic necessities have begun to run out, and medicines have become extremely scarce at the Central Laboratory.

The laboratory’s administrator, Abdul Razzaq Ibrahim, explained that vital medicines are on the verge of depletion, stating:
“Kobani is under a tight siege. We are providing services to people according to the available capabilities. Because of the siege, our medicines have begun to run out.”

He indicated that heart and blood pressure medications will be exhausted within just one week, while the remaining medicines will run out within twenty days if the siege is not lifted.

Ibrahim confirmed that the laboratory will be forced to cease operations if the current situation continues, calling for the immediate lifting of the strict siege that has deprived residents of the most basic necessities of life, including food and medicine.

Residents of the besieged city of Kobani are experiencing growing anxiety amid the absence of urgent solutions. Local civil groups and humanitarian organizations have appealed to international powers to intervene to secure basic needs and lift the siege that threatens the lives of thousands of civilians.
