Pakistani police reported that seven people were killed in two explosions in northwestern Pakistan.

"A private minibus carrying passengers was targeted by a remotely detonated improvised explosive device (IED)," said Yasir Afridi, police chief of Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

He explained that "the injured were being transported to the hospital in an ambulance for emergency treatment when a second IED exploded," adding that three other people were also injured.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombings, but the Pakistani Taliban is very active in the region, according to Reuters.

Pakistan blames neighboring Afghanistan for the escalation of attacks in the country. The Taliban government in Kabul has repeatedly denied Pakistani accusations that it uses Afghan territory as a safe haven for militants.

Tensions between the two countries have escalated in recent months into a bloody armed conflict that has included Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan cities.
