The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that forces affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government conducted a security operation in the village of al-Khandaq in the al-Ghab Plain, Hama Governorate.

According to the Observatory, the forces raided several civilian homes, arresting a number of young men after ransacking the houses and stealing belongings. They also assaulted men and subjected women to verbal abuse and beatings, in scenes that sparked widespread fear among the residents.

The Observatory explained that the security forces brought weapons they had with them into some of the homes they raided, then filmed them inside, claiming they were already there. These photos and videos were later used in an official statement issued by the Interior Ministry of the Interim Government.
