In an official statement, the SDF declared:

“Some media outlets are circulating false allegations that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have targeted checkpoints belonging to Damascus government militants around the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods in Aleppo city.

We categorically affirm that these allegations are completely false. Our forces have not been presented in the area since their withdrawal under the April 1st agreement.

What is happening in the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods is the result of a series of repeated attacks by Damascus government factions against the civilian population. They have imposed a stifling security and humanitarian siege, cut off aid and medical supplies, kidnapped many residents, and continued their daily provocations against residents at checkpoints and around the neighborhoods. Recently, they have erected earthen barriers around the neighborhoods, imposing a siege.

In a dangerous escalation, these factions are attempting to advance with tanks and armored vehicles and targeting residential neighborhoods with mortar shells and drones, resulting in civilian casualties and extensive property damage.

These actions have provoked residents, prompting them to defend themselves alongside the internal security forces in the two neighborhoods, who are fulfilling their duty to protect civilians and maintain security and stability.

We hold the Damascus government fully and directly responsible for the continued stifling siege and systematic violations against civilians, as well as for the recent dangerous escalation, which exacerbates the suffering of the population, threatens stability in the region, and reveals its deliberate disregard for people’s lives and dignity.

We call on international and humanitarian organizations to take urgent and effective action to end this unjust siege and halt the systematic attacks and provocations against civilians.
