SDF-Interim government deal sparks hope and caution in Rojava

The agreement reached between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Interim Government has revived hopes among the people of Rojava, but these hopes are accompanied by fears of repeated violations and breaches of agreements by Damascus, as happened previously in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, Maskanah, and Deir Hafer. In this context, citizens emphasized the importance of remaining in a constant state of readiness under a general alert, in case of any emergency.

The ceasefire agreement between the SDF and the Interim Government was welcomed by communities and residents in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and other areas in the cities of Rojava, although concerns remain about a repeat of past incidents in Maskanah and Deir Hafer, when the Interim Government violated agreements and launched attacks in the region.

Citizen Khalil Alouji from Amuda expressed cautious optimism regarding the agreement, viewing it positively, and noted that the importance of the agreement lies in stopping the war and restoring security in Kurdish areas, while expressing concerns about a repeat of what happened in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh.

Citizen Dalal Khalil said they have hopes for the agreement as a step toward ending the war and stressed the need for the Kurdish people to obtain their legitimate rights under a new democratic constitution. She also confirmed their readiness to bear arms to face any potential attacks.

Meanwhile, citizen Hassan Omari, displaced from the occupied city of Serekaniye, described the agreement as a "ray of hope," especially for the displaced who were eagerly awaiting it. He added that some clauses of the agreement need to be clarified further for the displaced, as they look forward to returning to their homes within its framework.
