SDF enhances security in Deir ez-Zor amid rising ISIS activity

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced an increase in their security and military measures in Deir ez-Zor Canton, located in the North and East Syria, amid a rise in attacks targeting their forces in the Canton, which resulted in the martyrdom of five of their fighters in assaults carried out by ISIS sleeper cells.

In a statement, the SDF said that they have increased their security measures in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor Canton.

The statement explained: “In a series of organized terrorist operations carried out by ISIS in Deir ez-Zor over the past two days, which reflect the dangerous plans of the terrorist organization, five of our fighters were martyred and several others injured while repelling two terrorist attacks. One targeted a military post in the town of Al-Jazrat in western Deir ez-Zor, and the other a military vehicle in the town of Dhiban in the east.”

The SDF further announced that in response to these "systematic terrorist plots," their various military councils have increased security measures and patrols in the region, amid the growing activity of terrorist cells in Syria generally and in Deir ez-Zor specifically.

The statement added: “ISIS is trying to reach a consistent level of terrorist operations targeting military and administrative forces as well as social events.”

The SDF affirmed the readiness of its fighters to pursue ISIS sleeper cells that seek to destabilize security and stability. They also emphasized their unwavering commitment to protecting civilians under all circumstances.
