SDC on May 1: Workers are key for Syria's recovery, social justice

In a statement issued today marking the occasion, the SDC expressed its sincere congratulations and deep appreciation to all workers and laborers in Syria and globally, who play a vital role in constructing societies and preserving their dignity.

The statement clarified that work is not merely a means of livelihood, but rather an embodiment of human will and a genuine expression of belonging and collective responsibility.

The SDC pointed out that the working class in Syria bears a double burden; it has not only endured the repercussions of years of crisis and the resulting economic and social devastation, but has also remained the true driving force behind sustaining life and preserving the social fabric.

It stressed that, “as the burden of living conditions on Syrian citizens continues to grow day by day, ensuring a dignified life and a fair economic environment becomes a national responsibility that cannot be delayed. Supporting workers, protecting their rights, and providing decent job opportunities are not isolated sectoral demands, but a fundamental condition for any genuine reconstruction and any path toward national stability and recovery.”

The statement affirmed, “There can be no progress without dignified workers, and no cohesive society without real social justice that guarantees every citizen the right to work, fair wages, and full legal protection.”
