The SDC participated in a conference on democracy and comprehensive political transition in Syria, held in Amman on September 21–22.

The conference was organized by the Swedish Institute for Dialogue in the Middle East and North Africa, the Swedish International Liberal Center, and the Olof Palme International Center.

The council was represented at the conference by Co-Chair Laila Qaraman and Deputy Co-Chair Ali Rahmon, alongside various Syrian political forces, parties, and women’s movements.

According to the SDC Media Office, the conference included extensive sessions discussing “opportunities and challenges for peaceful coexistence, peace, and stability in Syria, as well as ways to enhance inclusive political participation.” The sessions also presented leading international experiences in national reconciliation, such as South Africa, and held specialized discussions on the importance of building national alliances and engaging with public opinion, in line with advancing political transition under UN Resolution 2254.

The conference provided an opportunity for dialogue and exchange of views among representatives of Syrian political forces, research centers, and international institutions, aiming to develop practical approaches for a comprehensive political transition and sustainable peace in Syria.

At the conclusion, participants emphasized the importance of Syrian-to-Syrian dialogue and the need for the participation of all national components in the political solution process, ultimately building a state of equal citizenship that preserves the rights of all its citizens.

By invitation from Jordan’s “Irada Party,” the SDC held a meeting with the party’s leadership to exchange views and opinions.

SDC representatives also met with Sweden’s Ambassador to Jordan, Ann Måwe, to foster networking among participants and connect with various Jordanian political and social figures, including women’s organizations and political parties.
