The Syrian Democratic Council issued a statement today on the occasion of the thirteenth anniversary of the July 19 Revolution.

The statement stated: "On this day in 2012, the spark of the July 19 Revolution was ignited in Kobani, announcing the beginning of a unique democratic path in northeastern Syria, where the will of the people and components converged to build a model based on partnership and human rights, rejecting exclusion and striving to achieve social justice."

emphasized: "This revolution has proven that change cannot be achieved simply by toppling authoritarian regimes, but rather by building political and administrative alternatives based on pluralism, fair representation, and good governance. These values are increasingly important today, given the escalating security tensions in Sweida and the alarming targeting of the Druze community, which has historically been a fundamental pillar of national security. The repeated targeting of components of Syrian society threatens civil peace and calls for a national stance that transcends narrow alignments."

The statement added: "What is happening in Sweida reaffirms the need for a comprehensive national democratic project that enshrines the protection of dignity and unity based on pluralism and mutual recognition. In the absence of a clear vision from the transitional government, it appears that its responsibilities to preserve the social fabric and promote stability have not yet risen to the challenge, opening the way for agendas that threaten fragile societal trust."

The statement emphasized: "We condemn any attempt to exploit crises for security or sectarian reasons, and we reject division as a fait accompli. Incitement rhetoric only serves the enemies of democracy. We call on all national parties to prioritize dialogue and reason, and to unite in the face of calls for sedition and the re-emergence of tools of oppression under new slogans.

On the anniversary of the July 19 Revolution, we issue a comprehensive national call: Let us make this anniversary a moment to revive the values of the revolution, including dignity, justice, diversity, and participation, and let us continue our shared pursuit of a democratic, decentralized, and pluralistic Syria that embraces all its citizens and ends the suffering of its people.
