SDC, ADO: Decree 13 is positive step, must include all Syrian components

A delegation from the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) visited the headquarters of the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) in Qamishlo on Sunday to strengthen common relations and advance national efforts, as well as to discuss the latest developments of Syrian affairs and prospects for bilateral cooperation.

The SDC delegation included Hassen Mohammad Ali; the co-chair of the Relations Office, and council members Khalaf Daoud and Baqi Hamza, as they were received by Gabriel Moushi; the head of the ADO, Bashir al-Saadi; the deputy head, and Sarah Barsoum; the head of the Women's Office, along with several other members of the organization.

The meeting focused on the need to reinforce political and social ties. Both sides emphasized the importance of joint action not only in the Syrian Jazira region but also at the national level, as a necessary option for confronting current challenges and promoting stability. They also affirmed their commitment to implementing the January 29th Agreement in its entirety, in a way that serves stability and opens avenues for a comprehensive political solution.

The two sides agreed on the importance of concerted efforts to curb hate speech and prevent incitement, and to promote the values of tolerance and mutual acceptance among the various components of the Syrian people, in order to preserve civil peace and strengthen national partnership.

The participants also discussed recent legal developments, with both sides commending Legislative Decree No. 13 as a positive and important first step toward guaranteeing the cultural and national rights of the Kurdish component. They emphasized the necessity of extending this legal and constitutional recognition to all Syrian components, particularly the Syriac-Assyrian component, thereby enshrining a pluralistic national identity and establishing equal citizenship based on partnership and mutual recognition.

The meeting concluded with an affirmation of continued coordination and ongoing consultation between the Syrian Democratic Council and the Assyrian Democratic Organization to keep abreast of field and political developments at both the local and national levels.
