ANHA's correspondent’s camera captured harrowing scenes from the heart of As-Suwayda city after days of intense fighting, during which historic landmarks were reduced to rubble and residents were plunged into a cycle of displacement and humanitarian collapse.

The footage shows fires engulfing homes and commercial establishments, evidence of looting and pillaging, and near-total destruction of infrastructure, including electricity, water, and communication networks.

Since July 13, the city has experienced a military escalation that has resulted in the deaths of 1,339 people, including 196 who were executed in the field. This escalation has also led to extensive destruction of infrastructure and widespread looting of property amid chaos and the complete breakdown of essential services.

Despite the ceasefire entering its third day, clashes continue intermittently in the western countryside of As-Suwayda. Meanwhile, partial withdrawals of the Syrian transitional government forces, alongside allied armed groups known as the “tribal forces,” have been reported.

Calls persist for the establishment of an independent international investigation through a specialized UN committee to examine all violations and crimes committed in As-Suwayda, hold accountable those responsible from all parties, ensure justice and redress for victims, and prevent the recurrence of massacres.
