SADCOP Administration: diesel shortage in Qamishlo expected to be resolved within days

For the past three days, generators in several neighborhoods of Qamishlo have ceased operating due to a shortage of diesel fuel. The impact of the power outages has been exacerbated by the significant rise in temperatures.

According to information provided by the SADCOP administration in Qamishlo, the shortage is linked to arrangements associated with an ongoing integration process, which has led to a reduction in the quantities of diesel being delivered. The administration stated that the crisis is expected to end within two to three days.

Resident Lavend Haji Hassan expressed frustration over the fuel shortage, saying:

"For the past two or three days, the interruption in fuel supplies has had a major impact on people's lives. This problem has come at a very bad time. The weather is extremely hot, students are taking exams, and it is also the agricultural season. It seems that one problem is always followed by another."

He questioned the reasons behind the crisis, adding:

"Is it due to poor management? People cannot sleep at night, and during the day they are required to go to work. The authorities should explain what the problem is."

Another resident, Ali Nazem, pointed out that diesel prices are already very high, stating:

"We want diesel prices to decrease. The electricity we receive is available for only a few hours, and the weather is very hot. We are suffering greatly, and the responsible authorities should clarify the cause of the problem to the public."

Residents of Qamishlo have relied primarily on electricity generated by neighborhood generators ("ampere" generators) since October 2023, following airstrikes carried out by Turkish warplanes that targeted and damaged all electricity facilities in the area.
