Rojava leaders meet with French Foreign Minister

A high-level meeting was held between Rojava leaders and the French Foreign Minister to discuss key files related to the future of the region and mechanisms for implementing concluded agreements.

 The General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi; the General Commander of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), Rohilat Afrin; and the Co-Chair of the Department of External Relations of the Autonomous Administration, Ilham Ahmed, met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in the city of Hawler. 

Mazloum Abdi published a post on the platform (X), explaining that the meeting addressed details of implementing the January 29 agreement, ways to continue combating ISIS, and mechanisms for protecting detention centers holding the families and fighters of the organization.

Abdi indicated that the meeting also discussed protecting the particularity of Kurdish regions and guaranteeing Kurdish rights in Syria, in addition to addressing the file of integrating military and security forces in all its details, including the Women’s Protection Units.

He added that the French Foreign Minister stressed during the meeting the importance of fully implementing the agreement, affirming his country’s support for this phase.

The meeting with the Rojava delegation came after the French Foreign Minister’s meetings with the Foreign Minister of the Syrian Interim Government in Damascus and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in Hawler.
