Izraa Central Prison witnessed a riot today, with inmates taking hostages, accompanied by "chaos," prompting a widespread security alert around the facility, according to the local Daraa 24 network.

The events began with an attempt by inmates, which was accompanied by chaos within the cells. Reports indicate that some inmates inside the prison seized weapons from guards, suggesting that some guards are holding hostages.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a number of prisoners were wounded by gunfire in an attempt to control the situation. The Observatory also confirmed that the Damascus-based General Security forces completely surrounded the prison and controlled all entrances.

The General Security acknowledged the presence of hostages and is negotiating with the prisoners to release them.
