Residents stress national unity to counter sectarian plots

While Syria faces multiple challenges, hate speech and incitement continue in the streets and especially on social media, which has become a platform for spreading sectarian and religious discord among the region’s communities.

Despite the intensity of this rhetoric, local residents increasingly recognize the importance of national unity as a crucial step to prevent schemes that aim to fragment the social fabric.

Huda Ali, from the Kurdish community, said: "Sectarian and inciting rhetoric has intensified alongside recent hostile attacks on the region, aiming to create divisions among the nation’s people and target their unity and shared life. Despite this, the region’s communities—Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs, and others—continue to uphold their unity and cohesion, built over thousands of years, firmly based on principles that preserve national unity and social fabric."

Huda Ali emphasized that the threat of incitement remains, and stressed the need to confront sectarian statements and speeches both in public and online, maintaining national unity as the only path to counter discord and protect social cohesion.

Haifa Al-Awad, from the Arab community, said: "The region’s communities are linked by strong social ties spanning generations. These ties have faced multiple challenges and attempts to sow discord, yet national cohesion has always proven stronger, defeating such attempts every time."

Haifa stressed that the current stage, particularly after recent attacks targeting the “Brotherhood of Peoples” project, requires joint efforts among the communities to reinforce national unity as the only way to achieve stability and prosperity for all Syrians.

Shirwan Sifo, from the Kurdish community, added: "Schemes of discord and inciting rhetoric are systematically orchestrated by external entities targeting the Brotherhood of Peoples project, which has played an important role during the Syrian crisis in maintaining regional unity."

He noted that despite communities standing united against this rhetoric, the threat of sectarian incitement remains strong. The way to counter it is through the solidarity of all regional communities, as coexistence is the only real means to confront conspiracies aiming to destabilize them, ensuring a secure and stable future.
