Residents of Wadi Barada complain of abuses by Transitional govt Forces

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported today that residents of the Wadi Barada area, in the countryside of Damascus, are complaining about the practices and abuses committed by the forces of the Transitional Government in Syria.

According to local sources, the official in charge of Wadi Barada and its surrounding villages is “Brigadier General Ahmad al-Dalati,” a native of the area, whom residents hold responsible for these violations.

Residents stated that al-Dalati routinely dispatches military vehicles and Dushka-mounted trucks to the area without any declared reason.

The Observatory had previously confirmed that forces of the Transitional Government arrested a young man on his wedding day using multiple military vehicles. In another incident, armed members of the “General Security” reportedly looted the contents of a pharmacy during the arrest of its owner.

Two days ago, the town of Deir Muqren in Wadi Barada witnessed heightened tensions after a security patrol stormed a wedding party to arrest an individual on the pretext that he was “wanted,” leading to clashes between the patrol and several local residents.
