The residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in Aleppo are looking to 2026 to bring good news of an end to the siege imposed by the transitional government, alongside the spread of sustainable peace through the implementation of the March 10 and April 1 agreements.

Citizen Nesrin Haji noted that after the fall of the Baathist regime, Syrians held high hopes; however, these hopes quickly faded as they confronted the bitter reality they endured throughout 2025, marked by massacres, killings, and crimes against Syria’s various components.

Implementing the provisions of the March 10 Agreement

Nesrin expressed her hope that understandings would be reached between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the transitional government through the implementation of the March 10 agreement, stressing the need to entrench a culture of accepting others among Syrians.

Hopes for lifting the siege in the new year

For her part, citizen Doha Ibrahim affirmed that they had experienced a difficult year, particularly in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, which were subjected to repeated attacks.

She pointed to the lack of heating materials and services, as well as high prices, which negatively affected even the educational situation in the two neighborhoods.

Doha expressed her hope that 2026 would be a year of goodness for all of Syria, especially for Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, through lifting the siege imposed on them, halting attacks and assaults, and allowing their children to live, like children around the world, in prosperity and peace.
