Residents of Jatli village in the countryside of al-Darbasiyah have called on the relevant authorities to take urgent traffic safety measures at the village bend following a series of road accidents, the latest of which claimed the lives of two young men and injured three others. Residents of Jatli village, affiliated with the city of al-Darbasiyah, have urged the relevant authorities to implement immediate traffic safety measures to reduce the recurring accidents at the village bend. They noted that the village has expanded significantly and now includes an elementary school and an automated bakery, while homes are located on both sides of the road.

Several residents stressed that excessive speeding is the primary cause of the accidents, compounded by the lack of traffic signs and warning boards alerting drivers to the presence of the sharp bend and the nearby school. They also pointed to the absence of speed bumps and reflective road markers that could help reduce vehicle speeds, particularly during nighttime.

Residents further explained that dense trees growing within the road's right-of-way on one side of the bend obstruct drivers' visibility. In addition, potholes in the middle of the road increase the danger of the location and raise the likelihood of accidents.

A tragic accident occurred on the road on Friday, resulting in the deaths of two young men and injuries to three others.

In this context, Hassan Saleh, a resident of the village, said that the bend has witnessed repeated accidents and that the presence of an elementary school and an automated bakery makes the site even more dangerous due to the daily movement of residents and children.

He added that the lack of traffic signs and the presence of potholes have contributed to numerous accidents over the past years, calling for the installation of speed bumps and warning signs to reduce vehicle speeds.

For his part, Haj Jamal Haj Mansour said that the village has suffered for years from recurring accidents at the bend, noting that he had lost both a nephew and a cousin in previous crashes.

He added that residents' repeated demands for speed bumps and traffic signs have so far gone unanswered.

Haj Mansour called on the relevant authorities to expedite the implementation of traffic safety measures. He also urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and traffic regulations, and appealed for minors to be prevented from driving vehicles in order to protect road users and the residents of the village.
