The Martyrs’ Families Council in Garkê Legê issued a statement denouncing the action taken by AVA TV, which removed the image of leader Abdullah Ocalan from one of its broadcasts. The council stressed that this step targets the unity of the Kurdish people and serves their adversaries.

The statement was read in the presence of dozens of council members in Martyr Xebat Square by council member Shorsh Issa.

The statement read: “At a time when the Kurdish people across all parts of Kurdistan need unity and cohesion more than ever, and when calls are being made in the name of the Kurdish people to convene a national congress, and as leader Abdullah Ocalan calls for Kurdish unity, this call is echoing throughout all parts of Kurdistan.”

The statement added: “We strongly condemn AVA TV’s removal of the image. We consider this act a disruptive attempt targeting Kurdish unity, and we believe it serves only the enemies of the Kurdish people.”

It continued: “We affirm, in the name of the Martyrs’ Families Council, that such disruptive attempts will not succeed in undermining the unity of the Kurdish people.”
