The People's Municipalities Council of the Derik region has commenced rehabilitation work on the Barav village road (al-Zuhairiya Road), a 18-kilometer route connecting Derik city with the local villages months after removing the old asphalt layer to prepare the ground for maintenance operations.

The current work includes laying a layer of "residue" material along the entire route, in preparation for asphalting it in the next phase.

The workers continue their daily rehabilitation efforts from early morning until noon, aiming to restore the road to service and improve the transportation conditions for citizens.

The  villagers in Barav, stretching from al-Zuhairiya village to Deirk city, have endured significant deterioration of the main road over the past few months due to widespread excavations and damage along its length. This has made movement more difficult and taken longer than usual.

The deterioration of the road stems from the removal of the old asphalt layer by al-Shemal Construction and Development Company several months ago as part of a rehabilitation plan. However, the work was later halted, leaving the road in poor condition and sparking dissatisfaction among residents.

Several local residents confirmed that the road had become a daily burden for them, noting that travels that previously took between 10 and 15 minutes now take over 50 minutes due to the poor condition of the road, numerous excavations, and the frequent breakdowns of vehicles.

The residents of the area hope that the ongoing rehabilitation efforts will help end their months-long suffering and improve transportation between the city of Derik and the villages of Barav.
