Raqqa faces the rumor war with solidarity and calls to stand up to seditionists

The people of Raqqa have increasingly criticized some social media pages and media platforms that work to incite sedition among the city's components, threatening civil peace and stability achieved after the Syrian Democratic Forces liberated the city in 2017, calling for a stand against them.

Since the fall of the Baathist regime in Syria on December 8, 2024, suspicious media platforms and pages on social media, especially "Facebook", funded by the occupying Turkish state, have begun to spread rumors and false news targeting the security and stability of the region. Accordingly, voices in the city of Raqqa began to rise against seditionists who serve foreign agendas at the expense of the interests of the Syrians.

During meetings conducted by ANHA's agency, the residents demanded that those pages be monitored by the authorities responsible for the media institutions in the region, and that false news published with the aim of destabilizing the city and threatening community peace be refuted.

In this context, Ibrahim Al-Jassem, a 55-year-old citizen and resident of Raqqa, expressed his dissatisfaction with these pages. He said: "I unfollowed many Facebook pages that I noticed were promoting false and seditious news in my city. These pages follow a systematic policy of broadcasting news aimed at creating a societal rift between the components of Raqqa."

Popular confrontation of offensive pages

Al-Jassem confirmed that many residents of Raqqa have taken measures to report these pages via the Facebook platform to disable them and stop their activity, stressing the importance of the role of the competent authorities in the Autonomous Administration in taking the necessary measures against these pages.

He added that the components of North and East Syria agree on rejecting sedition and destabilization plans, stressing that the awareness of the population is capable of thwarting these plans, and that the people in the region stand with the Autonomous Administration and support its position rejecting any external interference or threat.

Stability of Raqqa in the face of distortion attempts

For his part, Khalil Muhammad, 40 years old, said that the city has been enjoying security and social stability for years thanks to the policy adopted by the Autonomous Administration in managing the affairs of the region. He pointed out that there are parties and countries that do not like this stability and seek to destabilize it.

Muhammad added: "The residents of Raqqa enjoy security and reject any attempt to incite sedition. The components of the city are loving and supportive, and we are keen to protect this social fabric and not allow any party to spoil it."

He called on the media and Facebook pages to refrain from publishing news that incites sedition or seeks to sabotage the region, stressing that such attempts do not bring good, but rather bring destruction and tragedies.

Free Media Union: A call to verify news sources

Hussein Othman, representative of the Free Media Union in Raqqa, stressed the danger of the news published by some media outlets and virtual communication pages, describing them as aiming to create chaos and destabilize.

Othman said: "Some news is based on personal motives or seeks to blackmail and exploit public figures. We call on media professionals and media institutions to verify the sources of news and video clips before publishing them, to avoid transmitting inaccurate or offensive information."

Othman stressed that the Free Media Union is following up on news and publications that negatively affect the regions of North and East Syria, calling on residents to search for reliable media sources and verify the accuracy of the news.

He pointed out the importance of promoting a culture of accepting others and rejecting exclusion in Syrian society as part of building a new Syria, calling on everyone to stay away from methods that aim to divide society or incite conflicts between its components.

Amidst these criticisms, the residents of Raqqa continue to defend the stability of their city, expressing their awareness of the importance of standing against any attempt to sow discord. With the efforts of the Autonomous Administration and the Free Media Union, a call is evident to strengthen the role of responsible media in building a unified and stable society.
