Twenty-five fighters who had been stationed in al-Aqtan Prison in Raqqa arrived today in the city of Qamishlo, after enduring a siege that lasted several days in January amid heightened security tensions and military escalation in the region.

The fighters had been surrounded within the prison compound following clashes that led to road closures and prevented the entry of supplies. This prompted negotiations, after which they left Raqqa for Kobani on January 23, before arriving today in Qamishlo to a public welcome.

Residents gathered in the city to express their appreciation for the fighters’ steadfastness during the siege. The arrival was carried out under organized procedures, with no incidents reported.

This development comes amid ongoing military and political shifts in northeast Syria and in accordance with the agreement concluded on January 29 between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government, which was accompanied by redeployments and repositioning of certain forces.
