QAMISHLO

The families of detainees in the city of Qamishlo organized a march today under the slogan: “We Demand Freedom for Our Heroic Detainees Who Defended Us.” The rally set off from Martyr Robar Roundabout and headed toward Osman Sabri Roundabout, demanding the release of their sons who have been detained by the interim government since early January.

Participants carried photographs of their sons and banners reading: “We Demand Freedom for Our Heroic Detainees Who Defended Us,” and “We Will Stand by Our Detainees Until the End.”

During the rally, demonstrators chanted: “We Want Our Detainees Back,” and “Break the Prisons and Free Our Detainees.”

The January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syria’s interim government stipulates the implementation of a prisoner exchange process between the two sides in consecutive phases. However, the process has witnessed a noticeable slowdown in recent weeks amid the absence of official explanations regarding the reasons behind it.

So far, three rounds of prisoner exchanges have been carried out: the first on March 10, the second on March 19, and the third on April 11, during which 800 detainees held by the interim government in Syria were released.
