During the meeting, Putin stated, “The Russian-Syrian relationship is a friendship that spans more than 80 years. It has never been subject to narrow interests, but rather based on mutual interests and the interests of the Syrian people. The joint government committee between Moscow and Damascus will resume its work soon.”

In response, President Al-Sharaa expressed his gratitude to Russia and President Putin, appreciating the historic ties between the two countries.

He said, “I confirm what I mentioned earlier: there are long-standing historic relations linking Syria and Russia. Today, we are in a new Syria. After what happened in Syria, we have tried to introduce the new Syria to all countries of the world, and to re-establish political and strategic relations with all regional and global countries, with Russia at the forefront, given the historical ties we mentioned.”

Al-Sharaa added, “There are also bilateral relations and shared interests connecting us in many ways. A part of Syrian food relies on Russian production, and many energy stations depend on Russian expertise. Many political and strategic international and regional relations are also linked to Russia.”

He continued, “We respect all past agreements and this great history. We are trying to renew and redefine the nature of these relations, emphasizing the independence of the Syrian situation, the safety and unity of its territory, and its security stability linked to regional and global stability.”
