PUK'sTalabani: Leader Ocalan's Message is necessary in current Phase

PUK President Bafel Talabani issued a written statement today regarding leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call for peace, in which he stated: "We welcome Mr. Abdullah Ocalan's message and see it as a responsible and necessary step in this phase, aimed at unifying the Kurdish ranks and achieving a peaceful resolution to problems based on the principle of partnership to build a brighter and safer future for our people.

He added, " The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan considers this message a significant beginning and an important stage, supporting it as a responsible national duty. We also endorse any step or initiative that strengthens the spirit of unity and brotherhood between Kurds and Turks.

" We hope that we all respond positively to this message and take practical steps toward achieving comprehensive peace, without wasting this historic opportunity that President Mam Jalal laid the foundation for back in 1993."

Talabani conclude, "As we have always affirmed, we support our brothers and sisters in all four parts of Kurdistan."
