Protests in Sweida demand Autonomy, accountability for perpetrators

During the protest, participants raised banners with slogans calling for "the release the kidnapped and detained," "the expulsion of terrorists from the western villages," and "international accountability for criminals" who committed crimes and violations against the region's residents.

The protesters also called for the formation of an "international, impartial fact-finding committee" to uncover the truth about the crimes committed by the transitional government's forces and affiliated armed groups.

The demonstrators expressed their refusal to send their children to schools run by the transitional government, with some banners stating, "I’d rather my daughter remain illiterate than study in the universities of Bani Umayya (sons of Umayyad)."

Others carried slogans asserting that anyone who supports the transitional government in Syria is "complicit in the massacres" that occurred in Sweida protesters commemorated all the victims who fell during the massacres last July, reaffirming their commitment to continue the struggle for freedom and dignity.

Citizen Nouras praised "the efforts to form a fact-finding committee,"The minority communities are good people living under starvation and pressure," pointing to the difficult living conditions resulting from the ongoing siege.

Citizen Nizar Masoud emphasized that the people of Sweida are determined to continue their protests until the siege is lifted, the living and political conditions are changed, and all fundamental rights, including self-determination, justice, and dignity, are achieved.
