Several areas in Aleppo, Hasakah and Suwayda witnessed protests today by industrialists, workers and employees over problems related to power outages, delays in the payment of financial dues and the regularization of employment status.

In the industrial city of al-Rai in northern Aleppo countryside, a number of industrialists and factory owners protested against recurring power outages that have forced several factories to halt operations and disrupted production lines. They called for a stable electricity supply, warning that continued losses could affect factories’ ability to pay workers’ wages.

In the city of al-Shaddadi and its countryside in southern Hasakah, workers at the Water Establishment and its stations held a protest outside the institution’s headquarters over delays in procedures to integrate them into Syrian government institutions and the failure to pay financial dues that have been outstanding for around 10 months.

The protesters called for the regularization of their employment status and the expedited completion of integration procedures, as well as the payment of outstanding salaries and accumulated dues. They stressed that continued delays had worsened their living conditions and heightened concerns about their employment future.

In Suwayda, a number of contractors who were recently dismissed from the Water Establishment, along with workers who have not received their dues for around five months, continued their strike outside the institution’s headquarters. The protesters closed the doors of the administrative departments while keeping access open for technicians and repair crews to continue maintenance work and respond to breakdowns.

The three protests come amid calls to address issues related to wages, financial dues and employment status, as well as to provide stable operating conditions for industrial and service facilities, amid warnings that continued problems could further affect production, services and workers’ conditions.
