Gever district witnessed protests against the appointment of a trustee of the Colemerg municipality in N. Kurdistan.

Young men and women from the Gever district took protested against the Turkish authorities’ arrest of the mayor of Colemerg, Sadiq Akş, and the appointment of a municipal trustee in his place. The protesters gathered in the streets of “Arman, Qashla, Dizi, Al-Jumhuriya, and Yeni,” and set fire to district squares and streets. The protests continued for hours, then the Turkish police tried to disperse  the protesters with gas bombs and rubber bullets.

The protests, during which protesters chanted the slogans “Long live the Colemerg resistance,” “Political prisoners represent our dignity,” “Resistance is victory,” and “Kurdistan is the graveyard of fascists,” continued until late at night. For the second day in a row all neighborhoods of the district are witnessing protests against the appointment of a trustee of the municipality of Colemerg.
