TISHRIN DAM

Tishrin Dam is a vital part of the NE Syria region’s critical infrastructure. It serves as an essential source of water and electricity and plays a strategic role in maintaining environmental and economic balance.

Amid escalating tensions in the region, the Turkish occupation launched attacks on Tishrin Dam on December 8, 2024, sparking concern among the local population.

In response to these ongoing attacks, people from diverse communities, including Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, and Armenians, have united in a collective stance. They have gathered at the dam to take shifts and demand an end to the attacks, demonstrating a scene of popular solidarity and national awareness that embodies the highest values of coexistence.

On January 8, thousands of people from the Jazera, Raqqa, Tabqa, and Euphrates Cantons, including Kurds, Arabs, and Syriacs, headed to Tishrin Dam to stop the Turkish occupation’s attacks and its mercenaries. They organized shifts at the dam, and four days later, a delegation from the Jazera Canton traveled to Tishrin Dam. On Monday, December 13, a delegation from Tabqa, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor Cantons also visited the dam.

Residents are organizing various activities at Tishrin Dam, including protecting it and cleaning the remains of attacks by the Turkish occupation. Their responsibilities extend beyond protection, reflecting their determination and resilience in facing challenges. Every dawn, they distribute tasks and continue working in a spirit of cooperation and sacrifice, defying the odds to safeguard their infrastructure.

Yesterday, the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries launched a violent attack on Tishrin Dam and its surroundings using heavy artillery and drones.
