Popular Initiative in NE Syria: Continuing aid to Syrian coast

The Popular Initiative in North and East Syria issued a statement to the public, explaining the details of its relief campaign launched to send humanitarian aid to those affected in the Syrian coast.

The statement was read during a press conference in front of the Democratic Union Party building in the city of Hasaka. It was delivered in Arabic by Mohammad Khalaf, an administrator in the aid campaign, and in Kurdish by Shirin Khalil, another campaign administrator, in the presence of representatives from humanitarian and community organizations participating in the campaign.

Responding to emergency appeals

According to the statement, the campaign was launched in response to urgent appeals from the residents of the Syrian coast. Civil and community organizations in North and East Syria launched the humanitarian aid campaign on March 14, with active participation from the Kurdish Red Crescent, Kongra Star, the Sara Organization for Combating Violence Against Women, the Democratic Union Party, and the Zenobia Women's Gathering.

Scope of aid and targeted areas

The statement noted that the relief convoy was prepared and dispatched on March 17, carrying food supplies and flour. The aid included 6,035 food baskets and 355 tons of flour.

The statement added: "Thanks to the efforts of the Mar Yaqoub Organization, the distribution process in the most needy areas was facilitated." The aid was distributed as follows:

Latakia Governorate: A total of 4,235 food baskets and 110 tons of flour were distributed in the following villages and areas: Al-Qalaa, Deir Safan Ziyadiyah, Al-Hakmiyah, Al-Zahloutah, Al-Sanawbar, Bark Shamsin, Al-Bassa, Ghaniri, Ruwaysat Al-Hajal, Al-Zaroud, Bili, Doubi, Al-Shuwa, Al-Maaysara, Al-Shir, Al-Shalfatiyah, Al-Hanadi, Al-Hakim, Al-Zoubar, Brabashbu, Sharifa, Al-Mukhtariyah, Qorosu, Qabu Al-Awamiyah, Al-Rahbiya, Al-Eidiya, Al-Zuhairiyat Al-Shamiyah, Qarfeis, Al-Sin, Ain Al-Arous, Al-Da'tour, A'tour, Basnada, Damsarkho, Sahat Al-Hamam, Al-Zaqzaqaniyah, Buqa Suburb, Al-Muntazah District, and Tishrin Suburb.

Tartous Governorate (Baniyas and its countryside): 1,800 food baskets and 145 tons of flour were allocated for the city's residents and rural areas.

Hama Governorate: 100 tons of flour were allocated to support those affected in the governorate.

Continuing the campaign and calling for humanitarian solidarity

The campaign organizers affirmed in their statement that this initiative will not stop, emphasizing that the initial distribution revealed the significant level of need, which requires ongoing efforts to secure more aid.

The Popular Initiative in North and East Syria called on all humanitarian and community organizations to provide more support to ensure that aid reaches all those in need.

At the end of the statement, the initiative thanked everyone who contributed to the success of this first step, highlighting the importance of humanitarian cooperation in light of the difficult circumstances faced by the residents of the Syrian coast.

After the statement was concluded, Mother Fadia Lahham, the head of the Monastery of Mar Yaqoub Al-Maqtou' in Qara, spoke and thanked the parties involved in this initiative, expressing her hope for peace to prevail in Syria.
