QAMISHLO

Last night, an attack occurred in the city of Qamishlo, where a man named Hussein al-Hasou fired shots at the Kurdish flag at the Zuri roundabout on the southern entrance to the city, sparking widespread condemnation in the area.

Qamishlo

In this context, the Martyrs' Families Council in Qamishlo issued a statement to the public today, in the presence of representatives from civil and social institutions and political parties, as well as residents of the city and council members.

The statement was read in both Arabic and Kurdish. The Arabic version was delivered by the co-chair of the Martyrs' Families Council, Ubaid Ati, and the Kurdish version by council member Liloz Khalil.

The statement declared that the shooting targeting the Kurdish flag could not be considered a mere incident, but rather a direct attack on the symbolism of the martyrs whose sacrifices are linked to this flag, which has, over the years, represented their struggle for freedom and dignity.

The council emphasized that the Kurdish flag is not simply a national symbol, but embodies the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs who gave their lives defending the values of freedom. It noted that any attack on the flag constitutes a violation of the sanctity of the martyrs and an assault on their memory.

The statement emphasized that these actions aim to destabilize the region and undermine the foundations of coexistence among its diverse communities, deeming them attempts to incite sectarian strife by targeting unifying symbols.

The Council of Martyrs' Families strongly condemned those behind this attack, describing it as a destructive act seeking to undermine the will of the people. The Council affirmed that such practices will only strengthen the resolve of the martyrs' families and the people of the region to uphold their gains and the values for which the martyrs sacrificed their lives.

The Council called upon the relevant authorities and internal security forces to take decisive action against those involved, working to uncover their identities and bring them to justice, in order to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.

The Council concluded its statement by affirming its continued commitment to defend the symbols of the martyrs and preserving their legacy, stressing that the Kurdish flag will remain raised high thanks to the sacrifices of the martyrs and the steadfastness of the people.

Tirbespiyê

In the city of Tirbespiyê, dozens of residents and families of martyrs gathered today in front of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) headquarters to condemn the incident. They issued an official statement expressing their rejection of this act.

The statement was read by Muntaha Mahmoud, a member of the city's popular initiative, who said: "We strongly condemn these actions targeting Kurdish symbols; these symbols were established with the blood of thousands of martyrs."

The statement continued: "This flag was raised with the blood of thousands of martyrs, and we call upon our people to stand firm and protect the gains achieved by the martyrs." It emphasized that an attack on the Kurdish flag is an attack on the entire Kurdish people, stressing the need to put an end to such actions and to work towards peaceful coexistence in a democratic manner.

The statement concluded by noting that the current situation requires greater solidarity and unity to present a unified and clear stance against all attacks targeting these achievements.

The Internal Security Forces issued a statement early this morning identifying Hussein al-Hasou as the perpetrator of the attack, describing it as a "blatant transgression" that violates the symbolic values of the region's communities. The statement noted that al-Hasou has a criminal record that includes several legal violations, including his involvement in a kidnapping a few days prior.

It also explained that these actions are part of "sabotage" attempts aimed at inciting sectarian strife and sowing discord among the community's various groups. They emphasized that they will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the security of citizens or insult national symbols.

The General Command of the Internal Security Forces announced that it acted immediately and arrested the perpetrator to bring him to justice. At the same time, they called on the people of the region to exercise restraint and not be drawn into attempts to incite sectarianism, reaffirming their commitment to protect civil peace and preserve the social fabric of Rojava.
