Political parties, organizations mourn Saleh Muslim, praise his struggle

Condolence messages were delivered from Kurdish, Syrian, and Arab political parties and forces following the announcement of the martyrdom of Saleh Muslim, member of the Presidential Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), who passed away in a hospital in Hawler (Erbil) in the Kurdistan Region after suffering from illness.

Several political parties and organizations in Syria, Kurdistan, and the Middle East expressed their sorrow over the passing of Saleh Muslim, praising his political career, his role in defending the rights of the Kurdish people, and his participation in the political struggle in Syria.

The Kurdistan Toilers Party sent a message of condolence to the co-presidency of the PYD, stating that the late figure was a prominent political personality who played an influential role in the Kurdish political struggle and had an active presence during the Rojava Revolution.

The Yazidi Union of Syria also mourned Saleh Muslim, stressing that he was among the figures who played leading roles on the Kurdistani political scene and contributed to bringing the cause of Rojava to international forums, in addition to supporting civil peace and strengthening coexistence among the components of North and East Syria.

For its part, the Revolutionary Left Party in Syria said that the passing of Saleh Muslim represents a loss for democratic and revolutionary forces, noting that he was one of the voices defending the democratic rights of the Kurdish and Syrian peoples and one of the contributors to the Autonomous Administration project.

The Socialist Union of Popular Forces Party in Morocco issued a condolence statement affirming that the late leader devoted his life to serving the cause of his people and defending their rights, leaving a clear mark on the history of the Kurdish national movement.

The Kurdistan National Assembly Party mourned Saleh Muslim, expressing deep sorrow over his death after a life full of dedication and struggle, noting that he had a strong presence in national work and that his passing left a painful impact on his comrades and supporters. The party extended its condolences to his family, comrades in the PYD, and his friends and admirers.

The Return and Reconstruction Front also mourned the Syrian activist Saleh Muslim, stating that he devoted his life to defending his people’s cause and remained committed to the principles of freedom and dignity until the final moment. The front described him as one of the prominent political figures of the Kurdish movement in Syria and a voice present in the political struggle for cultural and democratic rights, believing that Syria’s future must be based on justice, equality, and respect for its national diversity.

The Kurdistan Democratic Peace Party said it received the news of the death of the prominent Kurdish politician and former co-chair of the PYD with great sadness, considering his passing a major loss for the Kurdish political movement, and praising his contributions to strengthening the values of freedom, dignity, and justice.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria also expressed sorrow over the death of Saleh Muslim, describing him as one of the pillars of the struggle in Rojava who devoted his life to the cause of his people and the defense of freedom, dignity, and justice, stressing that his legacy will remain a source of inspiration.

The Kurdish Democratic Roj Party in Syria stated that the late leader spent many years struggling for the rights of the Kurdish people and remained an example of loyalty and commitment to principles.

In a statement, the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) said it received the news of his death with great sorrow, describing him as an experienced diplomat and politician, one of the pioneers of the Rojava Revolution, and a long-time co-chair of the Democratic Union Party, noting that he was also the father of a martyr and that his loss at this sensitive stage represents a major loss for Kurdish politics and for the Rojava Revolution.

The Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Islamic Party (PÎK), Hikmat Serbilend, also sent a condolence message, saying the late leader made great efforts in defending Kurdish rights and served his people with dedication.

The Change Movement (Gorran) expressed its sorrow over the death of the well-known leader in Rojava Kurdistan, stating that he was not only a political leader but also a symbol of resistance and sacrifice, and that his passing represents a great loss for the Kurdish movement in general and for Rojava in particular.

In the same context, the Confederation of Kurdish Communities in Germany (KON-MED) and the Association of Martyrs’ Families (KOMAW) said in separate statements that the late leader struggled for many years for freedom, democracy, and equality, stressing that his legacy will remain a guide for future generations.

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) offered its sincere condolences to his family, his comrades in the party, the Kurdish people everywhere, and to the broader Kurdish political movement, noting that his passing represents the loss of a prominent national figure who played an important role in both Kurdish and Syrian political life.

The council added that Saleh Muslim was among the founders of the Democratic Union Party and contributed to building its first organizational structures during a difficult period for Kurdish political activity in Syria, and later continued to assume leadership and representative roles in developing the political experience in North and East Syria, bearing great responsibilities under complex circumstances.

The statement also noted that he made personal sacrifices, including the martyrdom of his youngest son Sherfan during battles against extremist groups in Tel Abyad.

The Executive Body of the Syriac Union Party in Syria also sent a message of condolence, expressing deep sorrow and grief upon receiving the news of the death of the political figure and prominent leader in the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Salih Muslim, who devoted the years of his life to serving the causes of his people and defending their legitimate rights, and who had an influential presence and a clear mark in the course of political and national struggle.

The body stated: “​The late figure represented a model of commitment, sincerity, and tireless work. Throughout his long career, he contributed to strengthening the values of peaceful struggle and responsible political action, leaving behind a legacy of struggle that will remain present in the memory of his people, his comrades, and the peoples of the region. As we mourn this painful loss, we extend our sincere condolences and sympathy to his honorable family, to the leadership and members of the Democratic Union Party, and to the people in general, asking Almighty God to grant him His vast mercy and to inspire his family and loved ones with patience and solace.”
