In a statement, the Council announced its full disengagement from what it termed the “appointments of the so-called People’s Assembly,” calling upon the population in Central and Western Syria to refrain from participating in the establishment of electoral committees.

The statement explained that the decision aims to prevent the de facto authority from claiming legitimacy, representing local communities before the international community, and enforcing unjust laws under the pretext of communal consent.

The Council further stressed the need for strict adherence to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 under full United Nations supervision.

The Political Council of Central and Western Syria was officially established on August 27. In its founding declaration, it called for the adoption of a federal system as a solution to end the war and achieve justice among the regions, affirming that federalism grants each area the right to manage its own resources, puts an end to internal conflicts, and paves the way for rebuilding the state on legal and democratic foundations.
