Lawyers for the Al-Asr Human Rights Office submitted a request to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture to take “urgent action” against the absolute isolation on leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Mesopotamia Agency (MA) said that the "Lawyers of the Al-Asr Human Rights Office on May 17 submitted a request to UN take “urgent action” about leader Abdullah Ocalan, and their other clients, Omar Hayri Kunar, Hameli Yildirim, and Veysi Aktaş. Lawyers also submitted a request to the Special Rapporteur on the performance of the duties of lawyers.

The lawyers provided details of conditions of their clients’ detention in Imrali, and the problems related to obstructing the legal profession within the framework of United Nations documents, and explained that the request must be evaluated urgently to avoid the damages of Imrali.

 Referring to the request of the United Nations Human Rights Committee to take measures on September 6, 2023, the lawyers stated that the relevant Committee decision supports this status quo. The lawyers also stressed that Turkey has not yet met the requirements of the resolution.

In the submitted Petition, the lawyers also requested these demands from the rapporteurs:

*This request is urgent and must be evaluated as soon as possible.

* The solitary confinement conditions of the applicants must be ended, and their requests to meet with their families and lawyers must be immediately referred to the government.

* Visiting Imrali Prison and inspect the detention conditions there immediately, and applicants can have a face-to-face interview.

*The treatment of applicants must be wrote in a report.

* The conditions in Imrali Prison that applicants face must be followed up.

* A press release must be held following the data obtained.
