People of Derik: Our resistance will free Leader Ocalan, build free democratic society

The popular initiative for the freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan organized a mass event in the city of Derik, under the slogan "We will turn this black day into the day of freedom for Leader Apo," at the Revolutionary Youth Center square in the heart of the city. Thousands of people from Derik and the regions of Koçerat and Beravî participated in the event.

The attendees headed to the square carrying images of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, chanting slogans such as "No life without the Leader" and "Ocalan's freedom is the freedom of the people of the region."

The event began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by a speech from Wafa Ali, an administrator in Kongra Star in Derik. She pointed out that the Kurdish people's struggle, along with other peoples around the world against the international conspiracy, will continue until the physical freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan is achieved. She emphasized that "peace in the region passes through Imrali, and with our resistance and struggle, we will free Leader Ocalan and build a free democratic society."

She added, "Leader Abdullah Ocalan liberated the people of the region with his thought and philosophy, and thanks to the heroic resistance that believed in this thought, especially the fighters who became a model for women's liberation worldwide."

She affirmed that "the continuation of the unity of the peoples and their struggle will eliminate terrorism and occupation and will achieve freedom and democracy for all the people of the region."

For his part, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Gharib Hisso, delivered a speech in which he said: "From here, we send our revolutionary greetings to Leader Abdullah Ocalan. What we are witnessing today in terms of victories is the result of a resistance that has lasted for more than 30 years, and it was the reason for foiling all the conspiracies that were plotted against the Kurdish people's cause and the peoples of the Middle East."

He pointed out that "the people's participation and broad involvement in all initiatives launched for the freedom of the leader were a clear message to the international community that the components of the region are united and demand their legitimate rights. These peoples have found their goals in the thoughts and philosophy of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and they continue in their unity until they expel the occupation and achieve the physical freedom of the leader. These events have succeeded in foiling the international conspiracy."

He also noted that "Leader Abdullah Ocalan is a thinker and philosopher who calls for freedom, justice, and equality. Above all, he is a man of peace who has the ability to offer solutions to many problems in the Middle East."

He confirmed that "the enlightening words of leader Abdullah Ocalan are important for all the peoples of the region, in Kurdistan and the Middle East, as they carry initiatives for freedom and peace for all and put an end to foreign interventions in the fate of the people of the region and the occupation of its lands. We will work to make this year a year of peace and democracy, ending wars through our unity and continuous struggle."
