Participants in the mourning ceremony for PKK leaders Ali Haydar Kaytan and Riza Altun, held in Qamishlo on May 14, emphasized the need to respond to the call of leader Abdullah Ocalan for "peace and democratic society," denouncing the Turkish state's inaction towards this historic call.

Speaking to ANHA agency, citizen Rabia Kawas said that the Turkish state must take real and concrete steps towards the leader's calls for peace, emphasizing: "Our leader is the leader of all peoples. We want him to be free and live among us, and when he gets his physical freedom, we will know that the process has already started because peace begins with him."

For his part, citizen Abd al-Halim Akko pointed out that the Turkish state, realizing its inability to eliminate the PKK even after a century of attacks, resorted to the leader Abdullah Ocalan as the only key to pave the way towards peace, adding: "It is a step to defend itself against the dominant powers, but we are on the path of the leader until we achieve freedom."

Ibrahim Kusa, a citizen, noted that 26 years have passed since the leader was kidnapped and detained on the island of Imrali, referring to his isolation and systematic pressures that amount to genocide, saying: "We will continue to follow the leader's ideology as long as we live. The leader made our voice and the voice of the Kurds echo around the world."
