Participants in martyr Nour al-Din Sofi’s memorial ceremony stress importance of unity

The funeral ceremonies for the martyr leader Nour al-Din Sofi continue in Qamishlo, with broad participation from local residents, fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces, families of martyrs, and Arab tribal elders, alongside representatives from the region’s cantons. Attendees emphasized the need to protect the achievements of the revolution, strengthen unity, and continue the path of struggle.

The mourning ceremonies for the martyr leader Nour al-Din Sofi, held in Qamishlo in the Jazira Canton, are being attended by large numbers of city residents, SDF fighters and leaders, and families of martyrs. The ceremonies were accompanied by songs from renowned Kurdish singer Muhammad Sheikh, which were closely associated with the martyr and deeply cherished by him.

The mourning tent also hosted local communities and institutions, including the Sterk Organization for Monitoring and Protecting Children’s Rights, institutions and residents from the towns of Çil Agha and Tal Hamis, and the Union of Writers in Rojava, along with councils from Deir ez-Zor, Tabqa, and Raqqa. Tribes from Deir ez-Zor, including the Bakkara and Akidat, also participated, expressing solidarity and respect for the martyr’s sacrifices while chanting the slogan, “Martyrs are immortal.”

Residents of the martyr Farhad Derik showed their loyalty to the two martyrs by wearing photos of Nour al-Din Sofi alongside images of Farhad during the funeral ceremonies. Meanwhile, Farhad’s mother, Shireen Omar, recited poetry praising the role of Nour al-Din Sofi.

Speeches by participants highlighted the necessity of protecting the achievements gained through the martyr’s sacrifices and continuing his path of struggle. They also warned of attempts by some to sow discord among the Syrian people and stressed the importance of reinforcing unity and solidarity to counter such efforts.

The mourning tent is expected to receive delegations today from various cities in the Euphrates Canton and other cantons to continue honoring the memory of leader Nour al-Din Sofi.

Martyr Nour al-Din Sofi, the leader of the freedom revolution in Rojava and the people of North and East Syria, was martyred on April 6, 2021, during a visit to the Medya defense areas in the Kurdistan mountains to meet his former comrades, in an enemy attack while visiting the headquarters of the People’s Defense Forces.
