HASAKA

The conference will begin shortly at the Culture and Arts Center in the Gweiran neighborhood of al-Hasaka, with the attendance of between 400 and 500 political and cultural figures, Arab and Kurdish tribal sheikhs, representatives of the Syriac Assyrian Chaldeans, Armenians, Turkmens, and Circassians, as well as representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), political parties, women’s organizations, Bishop of al-Jazeera and al-Furat Mar Maurice Amsih, the Syriac Union, the Democratic Society Movement, the Kurdish National Council, and Sheikh Murshid al-Khaznawi.

The conference will open at 10:00 a.m. with a welcoming speech and the election of the presidium.

Speeches will be delivered on behalf of North and East Syria’s political and military institutions, including the Autonomous Administration, the SDF, the SDC, and the Women’s Council of NE Syria, as well as on behalf of the region’s communities.

The conference will also feature a message from the Druze and Alawite communities to the components of NE Syria.

Following that, the conference document will be read, discussions and proposals will take place, and the final statement will be issued at the conclusion.

In this context, Hikmat Habib, a member of the preparatory committee for the conference, told ANHA agency:

“After the fall of the Syrian regime and the events that took place in the region, and with Syria entering a new phase — especially what happened in al-Suwayda and the coastal region — there was a need for a societal initiative from the components of North and East Syria to hold this conference, as a message to all Syrians that North and East Syria is a unified society working to build a democratic, decentralized society.”

Habib noted that the North and East Syria region works toward building a united Syria for all Syrians, stressing that a national solution lies in the Syrian societal will, away from external agendas.

He confirmed that the conference will issue a document and outcomes that call for combating hate speech, convening a comprehensive national conference, supporting national forces committed to a democratic solution within the Syrian identity, and building a decentralized Syria where everyone is equal in rights and duties.
