“Our Sons, Symbols of Courage”: Calls for immediate release of detainees

Public demands for the release of detainees held by the interim government in Syria continue to grow. In this context, several relatives of detainees in Çil Agha and Garkê Legê, in the Jazira Canton, spoke to ANHA Agency.

Among the detainees is a fighter from the Syrian Democratic Forces, Sharafan Nour al-Din Mohammed, from the village of Kar Qahfak in the countryside of Garkê Legê. He was captured along with a number of fighters at the Um al-Khair checkpoint in Raqqa during a redeployment in January. Their fate remains unknown.

In this regard, Hadiya Mohammed, the aunt of Sharafan Nour al-Din and the mother of the fallen SDF fighter Mitan, said:

“Our sons detained by the interim government are heroes. They were on the front lines in the battles to liberate the region from oppression and terrorism. They were never victims of war, but true defenders who struggled to preserve the security and stability of the region.”

She added: “They are not prisoners, but symbols of courage and dignity. Thanks to them, the people of North and East live in safety and stability. They were arrested because they defended their cause and their people, and they must be released as soon as possible.”

She concluded by affirming that families will continue their efforts until all male and female fighters are freed.

For her part, Nisreen Fahd Mohammed, sister of Mohammed Fahd Mohammed, a member of the Internal Security Forces detained by the interim government since mid-January during the clashes of the al-Maamel area in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, praised the fighters’ role in maintaining stability. She said:

“My brother and all the fighters were on the front lines, defending the people of the region during the liberation battles against ISIS. They were vigilant eyes, protecting the region and its people from any threat.”

She added that the sacrifices of these fighters were not in vain during the years of the Rojava Revolution, but contributed to protecting the region, preserving its identity, and safeguarding coexistence in the face of division and strife that have targeted the revolution for 14 years.

She called for the immediate release of the fighters without delay or the use of their issue as a political bargaining chip. She also urged the peoples of Rojava, particularly the Kurdish people, to take to the streets to demand their freedom, stressing that their defense was not only for themselves, but for all components of the region and the future of coming generations.

Meanwhile, Yahya Ahmed Issou, from the village of Kafri Dana in the countryside of Jal Agha, and brother of detainee Mohammed Amin Ahmed Issou—held since January in Deir ez-Zor during an SDF redeployment—said: “The fighters were, and still are, a solid shield protecting the region. Thousands have sacrificed their lives, and thousands more were wounded in defense of its security and stability.”

He added: “The detainees from the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Internal Security Forces are not merely individuals; they are symbols of resilience and steadfastness in the Rojava Revolution, and they deserve every form of support to secure their release.”

Yahya concluded by calling for the swift release of the detainees, including his brother Mohammed Amin, so they can return to their families and resume their role in building the future of the region.
