Osman Sabri Association organizes festival in Damascus on Kurdish Language Day

On the occasion of Kurdish Language Day, the association held the festival under the slogan “Our language is our legitimate right… Our language is our identity,” at Rabweh Terraces Café in Damascus.

A delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) participated in the festival, alongside members of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Zenobia Women’s Gathering, the Democratic Union Party, and a number of Kurds from Damascus.

The festival began with a minute of silence, followed by a speech by Gharib Hasso, who stressed that the day is a historic occasion for the Kurdish people.

He praised everyone who contributed to preserving and developing the Kurdish language and paid tribute to Kurdish leaders and activists, as well as Leader Abdullah Ocalan, who he said attached great importance to the Kurdish language. He stated, “The development of society comes through the development of its language; therefore, every society must strive to preserve its language.”

Hasso added that the Kurdish people in Syria and Rojava had conveyed their struggle to the world through the Kurdish language, which he described as a source of respect and appreciation. He also stressed the need to preserve the language.

For their part, participants at the festival affirmed that the Kurdish language represents an inherent right and a cultural identity for the Kurdish people, emphasizing the importance of supporting it and strengthening its cultural and social standing.

The festival also featured folkloric dance performances, musical segments, poetry readings, and concluded with the distribution of awards to Kurdish language students.
