Ongoing closure of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh roads except for 2 pedestrian routes

The siege imposed on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods in Aleppo has now entered its fourth consecutive day, as the Transitional Government forces maintain the closure of all access roads except for two routes that remain open to pedestrians only—vehicles and other means of transport are still prohibited.

ANHA agency’s correspondent documented, through filmed footage, the continued closure of the seven main roads leading to Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, as well as the presence of the earth mounds set up by the transitional government forces since October 6, the date when the siege began.

According to the correspondent, the two pedestrian routes still open are Al-Awarid and Sheihan Roundabout, while the other roads—Lairamon Roundabout, Al-Jandoul Roundabout, Al-Hadika Road, Ashrafiyeh Hill, and Al-Jazira—remain completely closed to all movement.

This measure constitutes a violation of the April 1 agreement signed between the General Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods and representatives of the transitional government in Aleppo. The agreement stipulated the free movement of residents to and from the two neighborhoods and the establishment of seven joint checkpoints between the Internal Security Forces and the Public Security to regulate traffic and ensure the implementation of the accord’s provisions.

The road closures on October 6 preceded an attack carried out by government forces on the two neighborhoods, which resulted in the martyrdom of one civilian and injuries to around 60 others, according to medical sources in the area.

Residents are calling for the immediate lifting of the siege and the reopening of the roads to restore normal movement, stressing that the continued closure deepens their suffering and hinders the delivery of essential goods and services to the neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, the General Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh affirmed that communication channels with the transitional government remain active in an effort to end the siege imposed on the two neighborhoods.
