One killed, seven wounded in military escalation in Sweida countryside 

According to local medical sources, Rabee’ Hilal Murshid succumbed to severe injuries early Thursday morning following a drone strike carried out by forces of the Transitional Government in Syria. 

The strike targeted the area surrounding the Olgha Road in western Sweida.

A source at the Sweida National Hospital confirmed that Murshid was transferred to the intensive care unit with critical wounds before passing away. The seven injured individuals sustained various gunshot and shrapnel wounds and were transported from the villages of Tha’la and Olgha Road for treatment.

This escalation followed intense clashes that broke out late Wednesday night between the National Guard Forces in Sweida and the Transitional Government Forces positioned on the western side of Olgha town. Explosions and heavy gunfire were reportedly heard across several neighborhoods of the city.

The western regions of Sweida have witnessed repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement signed last July under U.S. mediation. 

In recent weeks, renewed aerial bombardments and artillery attacks have struck villages and residential neighborhoods inside the city, raising residents’ fears of a return to widespread conflict in the area.
