“Noon” initiative calls for ending isolation of Abdullah Ocalan

The Noon Initiative for Ocalan’s Freedom issued a written statement today on the anniversary of the so-called international conspiracy carried out against Abdullah Ocalan on February 15. The statement affirmed that the operation was not merely a political arrest, but a pivotal moment that ushered in a new phase of grave human rights violations and setbacks to peace prospects in the region.

The statement noted that “the isolation imposed on Ocalan in İmralı Prison constitutes a clear violation of the European Convention on Human Rights and disregards the recommendations of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture as well as rulings of the European Court of Human Rights, which have emphasized his right to a fair trial and the possibility of conditional release.”

The initiative stressed that “the continuation of this situation does not affect Ocalan alone, but sets a dangerous precedent that threatens the international legal system and legitimizes policies of collective punishment and political exclusion.”

It renewed its call to lift the isolation imposed on Ocalan and to guarantee his legal and humanitarian rights, urging international institutions to fulfill their responsibilities and global public opinion to break the barrier of silence.

The statement further emphasized that “no genuine peace process in the region can succeed without ending the policy of isolation,” adding that “women’s struggle for freedom and peace is an integral part of this cause.”
