Syrian transitional government foreign minister Asaad al-Sheibani and Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer are meeting today (Thursday) in Baku, the Azerbaijani capital, for a new meeting focusing on "developments in the security situation in southern Syria," according to a diplomatic source who spoke to the media.

The source explained that the meeting is a continuation of what he described as previous meetings, the most recent of which was held on July 12 in Baku, on the sidelines of Ahmed al-Sharaa's visit to Azerbaijan, and another meeting in Paris last week, which was sponsored by the United States.

The Baku meeting coincides with a surprise visit by al-Sheibani to Moscow, which a Russian source believes is linked to a phone call between President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week.

These moves indicate an increase in diplomatic activity, particularly regarding southern Syria, amid ongoing attempts to control tensions and manage escalation following violations committed by transitional government forces in their recent attack on Sweida and its countryside
