Nearly 10,000 killed, including over 2,500 executed, since Assad’s fall

Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, a total of 9,889 people have been killed in Syria, including 7,449 civilians and 2,535 victims of field executions.

Between December 8, 2024, and August 6, 2025, ongoing violence and security chaos in Syria have led to the deaths of 9,889 individuals. Among the victims are 7,449 civilians, including 396 children and 541 women.

According to the documented toll by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the casualties are distributed as follows:

2,354 deaths by the end of 2024

1,122 in January 2025

603 in February

2,644 in March

452 in April

428 in May

391 in June

1,733 in July

162 from August 1 to August 6

As for field executions, there have been 2,535 documented cases, most of which occurred in March (1,726 cases). These included killings based on identity and affiliation, as well as dozens of deaths under torture in prisons run by the transitional government and affiliated armed groups.

The toll also includes the deaths of members of various militant and jihadist groups, such as ISIS mercenaries and mercenaries of the Turkish occupation mercenaries (National Army), along with casualties from Israeli and Turkish airstrikes.
